India-born Dr ABDUL BASIT SYED FRSA, Honoured with the prestigious 'Freedom of the City of London' Award Last Updated : 19 Sep 2023 02:09:13 PM IST An India-born founder of an International NGO “WORLD HUMANITARIAN DRIVE” an organisation with ‘Special Consultative Status’ with UNITED NATIONS has been conferred with 'Freedom of the City of London' title for his outstanding contribution in promoting UK-India relations and for leaving a mark globally on the EDUCATION, HUMANITARIANISM and TRADE Sector.
Dr ABDUL BASIT SYED FRSA, received this prestigious honour at a ceremony at the Chamberlain's Court at Guildhall in London on Monday the 18th September 2023.
During this award ceremony, Ramesh Awasthi, Group Editor of Sahara Samay News TV Network also congratulated Abdul Basit Syed.
As one of the oldest surviving traditional ceremonies of the British capital still in existence today, the tradition of conferring the title is believed to have started in the YEAR 1237. The title of Freeman is more symbolic today and comes with certain corresponding duties associated with the Lord Mayor's office.
Dr Abdul Basit Syed, strongly believes global humanitarians as him are the torchbearer’s for a harmonious society and continuously initiates Peace and Educational events through his organisation ‘WHD’ initiatives such as Trade 4 Peace, The Science Bazaar, ‘World Moral Day’, programs to further enforce that.
The Science Bazaar program organised by Dr Abdul Basit Syed, in Chennai, India on 06th & 7th of March 2020 displayed 834 new innovations and gadgets to support Global “Different Abled” people’s needs and portray India’s unique innovations to the world.
His initiative “Trade 4 Peace” focuses on Developing nations as India on promoting the integration of the global economy and businesses as a pathway for peace, by working with global leaders, dignified royalties and prominent speakers from over 25 countries on supporting India’s vision on sustainable development goals.

The legacy of this Freeman Title is shared by historical figures such as Queen Elizabeth II, Florence Nightingale, Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, Margaret Thatcher and legends such as Professor Stephen Hawking, Morgan Freeman and contemporary statesmen such as John Kerry.
The Freedom Certificate was presented by the Chamberlain of the City of London. Freedom ceremonies take place in the Chamberlain’s Court at the Guildhall, London.
Dr Abdul Basit Syed, was escorted to the Court by the Beadle, who wears a top hat and frockcoat. The Clerk of the Court wears a silk gown, Chamberlain performs the unique ceremony and wear the traditional ermine-trimmed gown.
