Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match Test series played in Galle on Wednesday.
This is the first match that the Indian players are playing under new coach Ravi Shastri.
After playing 17 ODIs and featuring in 19 T20Is, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is making his Test debut in this match. Kohli presents the Test cap number 289 to Pandya.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile is led by stand-in-skipper Rangana Herath in place of Dinesh Chandimal, who has been ruled out through flu.
