Widespread rain in the plains and snow in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir during the next three days was forecast on Tuesday.

An adverse weather advisory issued by the MET department has asked farmers to postpone their agricultural activities during this period and also cautioned travellers on Srinagar-Jammu highway of possible landslides.

Based on the weather office advisory, the divisional administration has advised travellers to contact traffic control rooms in Jammu and Srinagar cities before undertaking the journey on the highway.

"A western disturbance (WD) is active over the state and under this influence we are expecting adverse weather conditions to continue till the evening of April 6," an official of the MET department said.

The WD is the name given to an extra tropical storm in the Mediterranean Sea under whose influence rainfall activity takes place in Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was 22.1 degrees Celsius in Jammu city on Tuesday while it was 18.5 in the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine base town of Katra.

Batote town had 12.8 degrees Celsius, Bhaderwah 10.5 and Banihal 10.3 as the night's lowest temperatures on Tuesday.

Srinagar recorded 11.2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam 5.6 and Gulmarg 1.2 as the minimum temperatures.
