10 Reasons why BJP got this historic victory in UP Last Updated : 11 Mar 2017 07:43:11 PM IST (File photo)
BJP never had it so good and we analyze possible reasons why BJP got this thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh
The cat is out of the bag and it has been established that there is a Tsunami of Modi in the country, still. The 2014 BJP-wave, or to be precise, the Modi wave is not waning; at least not now. And one is left pensive when one takes Omar Abdullah tweets, ‘In a nutshell there is no leader today with a pan India acceptability who can take on Modi and BJP in 2019.’ When the doomsayers were predicting that demonetization and sensitive remarks by fiery BJP leaders will spell doom for BJP, just the reverse happened. Not only has BJP registered a thunderous victory, Samajwadi Party took the worst nose dive ever. Nothing seemed to have worked for Tipu of Uttar Pradesh neither the new alliance nor the daring spirit to take on the veterans of the party. Here are the possible reasons:
1. The family rift within the Samajwadi Party confused the voters. They did not understand which way to go. Venom spewed by Amar Singh and Shivpal Singh Yadav was the last nail in the coffin.
2. There were 29 rallies of Narendra Modi. As if the PM did not want to leave anything to chance. He virtually stationed himself in Varanasi for three days in the last leg of the elections. Narendra Modi’s tenacity of purpose convinced the voters.
3. The master-strokes of Amit Shah, whose political acumen was witnessed during the 2014 General Elections was witnessed this time also. He took all the fizz out of SP and BSP’s caste politics by removing Laxmikant Vajpayee and giving the center stage to the OBC face Keshav Prasad Maurya. And the trick paid off.
4. The Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance was rejected by the voters. The last-moment alliance confused them as it looked unrealistic
5. Absence of Priyanka Gandhi from campaing. Especially, when she along with Dimple Yadav could have been influence the young women voters.
6. Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Congress president Sonia Gandhi kept themselves out of UP campaign
7. The bold step of demonetization has cemented PM Modi’s position further. The voter seems happier by the discomfort of the rich politicians and businessmen resulting from demonetization more than their own inconveniences.
8. The surgical strike has made all Indians proud, cutting across all caste and creed.
9. Mayawati’s social engineering (which included fielding 100 Muslim candidates) failed miserably. And Mayawati’s loss was BJP’s gain
10. The local elections of Odisha and Mumbai were encouraging for BJP and it reflected in the Assembly Elections as well.
