Polling for 49 seats in the sixth and penultimate phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections and 38 Assembly constituencies in the first of its two-phased elections in Manipur began 7 a.m on Saturday.

Polling in the sixth phase of the Uttar Pradesh elections began on Saturday morning and around 37.85% voters cast their vote till 1 p.m.

The over 1.72 crore electorate will decide the fate of 635 candidates across seven districts in eastern UP.

Prominent candidates in the fray include Bharatiya Janata Party's Swami Prasad Maurya (Padrauna) and former state unit chief Surya Pratap Shahi (Pathardeva), and jailed don Mukhtar Ansari, contesting from Mau on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket.
  

Maximum number of candidates are in Gorakhpur city where 127 candidates in fray for its nine seats, while the minimum number of candidates - seven - are in Mohammadabad Gohna seat in Mau.

Manipur goes to polls on Saturday morning and around 69% voters cast their vote till 1 p.m in the first of its two-phased elections across 38 Assembly constituencies.

There are 168 candidates in the fray for the Saturday polls. Seven of them are women.

There are 5,44,050 male and 5,75,220 female voters for the first phase polling. Besides 5,169 male and 1,915 female service voters are expected to cast votes.

Out of 1,643 polling stations, 839 have been identified as critical and 527 as vulnerable stations.

The remaining 22 constituencies go to the polls on March 8.
