Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of G-20 Summit in Osaka in Japan later this week, diplomatic sources said here on Tuesday.

The two leaders are expected to review the status of the bilateral ties and discuss the roadmap for the future of the strategic partnership, the sources said.

Modi and Macron will be in Osaka to attend the G-20 Summit on June 28-29.

This will be the first meeting between the two leaders since Modi took over as the Prime Minister for the second time on May 30.

Earlier, soon after Modi's re-election, Macron had called him up to congratulate him.

The two leaders had reaffirmed their commitment to work together towards further strengthening of the strategic partnership between India and France.

Describing Modi as "one of the foremost leaders of the democratic world", the French President reiterated his invitation to him to visit the country in August this year for a substantive bilateral meeting and to attend the G7 Summit at Biarritz, south-western France.

Modi thanked France for its steadfast support to India on critical issues.

France has been supporting India at all forums, including its candidature for the permanent membership of UN Security Council.

It also played a key role recently in the sanctioning of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief Masood Azhar by the UN Security Council.
