Rahul Gandhi’s media interaction was not loaded with any chest thumping speech or any demonizing phrases; it was a two way interaction with some honest replies. He appeared to be in his modest self, very cool about the much needed win that has clearly put a break on the winning spree of the Modi-Shah combine.  But the underline was to clearly show the divide – I and we the humble group and he and they the arrogant lot. The idea was perfectly enacted. It is a well known fact that leaders have their own support groups who formulate strategies, speeches, points and even work on body language of the leader. And here was a performance which can be regarded as cent percent up to the mark.

 All the speeches of Rahul Gandhi have content which is heavily loaded with anti-Modi focus. The aim is what Congress believes is to ‘de-sensitise’ the people of the ‘Modi effect’. And Rahul, despite the barbs and the fun that is made of him has been consistent with this agenda. And on December 11, he did no different. Rahul Gandhi at the very beginning of the press interaction acknowledged the contribution of the Shivraj Singh, Raman Singh and Vasudhara governments in MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.  A deft move indeed meant to mark out Modi and Amit shah who never lose any opportunity in negating the contribution of the previous governments. Rahul made it a point to appear candid and forthright in acknowledging his low moments of 2014 which he cleverly categorized as his training moments.

It has taken Rahul Gandhi five years to reach a level but the place is still far behind the Modi frame. December 11, 2018 was Rahul Gandhi’s first year after becoming the President of Congress party and there could not have been a better gift for him than the win in those three states which contribute the maximum to the nation’s top political seat.

Rahul Gandhi has a lot to cheer about as he has given a deeply worrying moment to the Modi- Shah Camp. But the challenges in the stressed three states of MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh could as well end as the ultimate test for him as well.
