The 44 Gujarat Congress MLAs who were shifted to a resort on the outskirts of the city nine days ago fearing poaching by the BJP ahead of tomorrow's Rajya Sabha election, returned Ahmedabad in an early morning flight from Bengaluru, today.
The legislators were brought to the city resort on July 30 after six of the party MLAs quit their seats and the party ahead of Rajya Sabha polls, where the party's leader and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel is seeking his fifth term. The had arrived in the city and were 'safeguarded' in Eagleton resort on the outskirts of the city by the Karnataka congress party with minister D K Shivakumar taking care of them.
Before enplaning to Ahmedabad AICC spokesperson and MLA Shaktisinh Gohil said the party had defeated the BJP's ill intentions of luring its MLAs offering huge cash and the legislature party was united to ensure the victory of Mr Patel.
