Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the Indian Women Cricket team for showing shown remarkable tenacity and skill through the World Cup.
"Our women cricketers gave their best today. They have shown remarkable tenacity & skill through the World Cup. Proud of the team! @BCCIWomen," PM Modi tweeted.
Chasing a target of 229 runs, the Indian team lost to England by nine runs in a nail-biting final of the ICC Women's World Cup at Lord's in London on Sunday.
The India team may not have won the title, but they have won a million hearts.
Along with Modi, other political leaders also congratulated the Indian Women Cricket team for their outstanding performance."Well played @BCCIWomen! The team was in great form, you won a billion hearts and made India proud," BJP President Amit Shah tweeted.
"Well played Team India! The results may not have been in your favour today but you have won many hearts. #WomenInBlue #WWC17Final," Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi wrote on his Twitter handle.
"Kudos to @BCCIWomen for reaching #WWC17Final and performing with grit and determination. Good fight. All the best for the future," Rajyavardhan Rathore, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting tweeted.
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has offered Indian women cricket team player Harmanpreet a job of DSP in the Punjab police for her performance in the ICC Women's World Cup.
Captain Amarinder said that Harmanpreet is welcome to join Punjab Police as a DSP, if she wishes to.
