Just a day after being chosen as NDA's candidate for the August 5 Vice Presidential election, M. Venkaiah Naidu filed nomination for the post.
Former Union Minister and veteran politician Naidu, who was nominated by BJP on Monday, filed nomination for Vice Presidential poll in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah ' title=' Amit Shah '>Amit Shah and other NDA leaders.
"Honored to be a candidate for Vice President of India. I have been actively engaged in public life for over four decades," Naidu told reporters after filing the nominations.
He also said that he is grateful to PM Modi for selecting his name for Vice President post and will do his best to maintain the dignity of the post, if selected.
"Office of Vice President is a different profile, has its functional norms. Hope I will be able to do justice. Grateful to PM. On being elected I will uphold traditions, standards set by the worthy predecessors and maintain dignity of office," Naidu said.
"I have resigned from Council of Ministers, conveyed to Prime Minister and sent a letter too last night," the senior BJP leader said.
"I deem it as an honour to be nominated as the BJP and NDA's candidate for the post of #VicePresident of our country," Naidu tweeted after filing the nomination.
Opposition-backed Gopalkrishna Gandhi has also filed the nomination on Tuesday in Delhi for Vice Presidential Election in presence of Congress party President Sonia Gandhi, Vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and other senior leaders.
All other opposition leaders were also along with him.
