Gurmehar gets security in Punjab, Haryana minister flays her Last Updated : 01 Mar 2017 06:57:26 PM IST (file photo)
Haryana Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij, known for courting controversies, continued his tirade against Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who has got police security in Punjab.
Vij said the 20-year-old Lady Shri Ram College student was doing politics over the "martyrdom of her father".
Officials in Jalandhar said two women constables of the Punjab Police had been stationed at Gurmehar's residence for her protection. She left New Delhi on Tuesday for her hometown Jalandhar.
Gurmehar on Tuesday said she was withdrawing from the social media campaign she launched against the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), blamed for violence in Delhi University.
"She is doing politics on the martyrdom of her father. She has given a clean chit to Pakistan, which has been fighting with India, directly and indirectly, from a long time," Vij told the media at Ambala, 45 km from here.
"People who are supporting her are pro-Pakistani. They should be thrown out of this country," the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said.
ABVP activists were accused of assaulting students and teachers at the Delhi University campus on February 22, a day after the student body forced Ramjas College to axe a seminar.
When Gurmehar took on the ABVP, she got death and rape threats. She is the daughter of a slain army officer.
Gurmehar's grandfather Kanwaljit Singh on Tuesday threw his weight behind her, saying she had done no wrong.
Her teachers at Lady Shri Ram College also rallied to her defence.IANS For Latest Updates Please-
